What is permaculture?

Permaculture is a coined term meaning permanent agriculture or permanent culture designed by two Australians; Bill Mollison and David Holmgren. It is designing consciously to create agriculturally productive ecosystems that are easily maintained, if not needing any maintenance what so ever. When designing with permaculture, our intentions are to mimic natural ecosystems with their resilience, diversity, and stability. Permaculturist do this by working with nature and carefully observing her systems with all of their functions as a whole.

As Bill Mollison wrote, “It (permaculture) is the harmonious integration of landscape and people providing their food, energy, shelter, and other material and non material needs in a sustainable way. Without permanent agriculture this is no possibility of a stable social order.”
